Aquesta carta és un primer informe que la família Kline fa als seus amics per explicar l'estat en què es troba la seva filla Brenda Kline, que està a l'hospital després d'haver sofert un atac que la va deixar cega i gairebé totalment paralitzada amb encefalomielitis.
