Castro informa Ferrater dels projectes que l'ocupen i de la dificultat de desenvolupar una tasca intel.lectual a Madrid, on no pot disposar dels seus llibres, que es van quedar als EUA. Fa poc ha enllestit els últims tres capítols d'un llibre que li publicaran a UCLA Press, ha escrit unes pàgines per la reedició italiana de La Spagna, i també ha completat The Spaniards, amb el nou subtítol de "An Introduction to their History". Castro explica a Ferrater les tesis que desenvolupa en aquest llibre amb gran detall i critica totes les interpretacions que contradeixen les seves tesis (García Gómez, Menéndez Pidal, etc.)
